Portes Du Soleil Ski Area
Morzine
Morzine lies within the Porte du Soleil circuit, the world’s biggest lift and or bus linked winter playground which joins eight resorts in France and seven in Switzerland. Morzine (1000m), a beautiful traditional charming Savoyard town which still exudes original character, but can lose snow quickly as temperatures rise and the sun burns through in the Spring. The local lift network and skiing is more extensive than other centres in the Porte du Soleil, yet is lift linked across Les Prodains to Avoriaz and beyond, and also up over into Les Gets. It has a reputation for offering good value for money, and is also popular with families.
Accommodation & Après Ski
Morzine is extremely popular with Brits and has a very lively apres scene. There is a vast selection of bars and restaurants to suit everyone’s taste. Popular haunts include The Cavern, Le Tremplin, The Wine bar and Coup de Coeur. Robbo’s is also worth a visit.
We offer a wide array of chalets and hotels as well as self catering apartments.
Les Gets
Les Gets lies within the Porte du Soleil circuit, the world’s biggest lift and or bus linked winter playground which joins eight resorts in France and seven in Switzerland. Les Gets (1170m), too, is a traditonal farming village which has expanded steadily since it started in 1937. It retains a good reputation for producing some of the better powder, some excellent challenging off piste and otherwise has extensive terrain for skiers of all abilities. Les Gets has replaced the diesel generators on its lift system with the eco friendly solar panels . With so much sunshine in this region this was a logical step and instead of being concerned about being so low in altitude and thus running out of snow it has used the sunshine to good effect . However, Les Gets’ height isn’t the only factor in getting and keeping it’s snow – grassy ‘pasture pistes’ need very little snow to make them skiable, many runs are north facing or tree lined, which also helps, and the area benefits from the Mont Blanc Effect.
Accommodation & Après Ski
Les Gets has a relatively laid-back après ski scene. There are still some fantastic places to relax, including the Black Bear Bar and the Irish Pub, which offer charming decor and amazing views. L’Anka is a small tapas bar that is well worth a look, offering amazing Spanish food and a mouth-watering drinks menu. There is an ice rink in the centre of the village, while snowmobiling and hot air balloon rides can also be arranged.
If you are looking to relax after a day on the slopes, the Les Gets Beauty Salon and Wellness Centre will be the perfect place to soothe aches and pains, with a wide range of treatments available along with a swimming pool, jacuzzis and saunas.
Avoriaz
Avoriaz gives good access to the main Porte du Soleil circuit, the world’s biggest lift and or bus linked winter playground which joins eight resorts in France and seven in Switzerland. Purpose built, Avoriaz’s relatively sympathetic cedar faced apartment blocks have won awards for architecture. It is theoretically traffic free since visitors’ vehicles are parked at the entrance to the village. Naturally it’s ski in, ski out accommodation and snow cover at village level (1800m) though not always guaranteed is as likely for this comparitively low level circuit. Skiing is an intermediate and cruiser’s dream, but Avoriaz is central for a quick exit on to some of the Portes du Soleil’s more challenging terrain. Snowscooting is another sport available if you should tire of skiing and boarding.
Accommodation & Après Ski
Pub’s and clubs are bright and bustling in the purpose built village of Avoriaz. There is no traffic allowed in the centre so you can stagger back to your bed worry free. Pub’s and accommodation are right on the slopes and close to each other, allowing ski in ski out as long as the snow lasts as low as the village but this isn’t always guaranteed until the end of the season. This resort is full of great bars like the Budha Bar which is a laid back place and great for apres ski , Dixies is good place too if you want to watch sports on TV.
Chatel
Chatel lies within the Porte du Soleil circuit, the world’s biggest lift and or bus linked winter playground which joins eight resorts in France and seven in Switzerland. It offers Good intermediate skiing, plenty within reach of the well spread out village.
Accommodation & Après Ski
Chatel offers a mix of modern and traditional good value accommodation, in keeping with much of the Portes du Soleil.
