Sun Peaks
Sun Peaks in Canda combines a compact but excellent purpose built ski area with the ability to ski through village with a great variety of accommodation and some excellent dining options and all easily accessible at the foot of three snow-clad mountains.
- The Austrian Ski Team made Sun Peaks their base during the 2010 Winter Olympics
- An ideal choice for families with and for those wanting some fantastic skiing with a compact laid back village environment.
- Canada’s Second Largest ski area
Sun Peaks receives 6 metres of snow annually, and the mountains are covered with light, dry powder that Interior British Columbia is famous for. 4,270 acres of skiable terrain is spread across the three skiable peaks, and each mountain is easily accessible from the central village. So, you can ride all three in the same day, or stay in the area that you like the most.
Sun Peaks resort has a lot of expansion, but all this is a carefully managed environmentally respectful development.
Tod Mountain, which is the highest of the resort’s three mountains, has always been home to some tougher slopes, but the inclusion of the previously backcountry Gils area now offers some steeps and ungroomed powder runs to whet the appetite of those with a thirst for adventure.
Sun Peaks now has the new West Bowl Express lift which will be opening for season 2024/25 and this will enhance the access to the West Bowl area of Mt Tod.
Across the valley from Tod lies the Morrisey Peak, well known for its tree-lined blue cruiser runs, but also home to some of the steepest runs in the resort. Recent seasons have seen new trail additions to the steep fall lines of West Morrisey, tis is known as the Laundromat area with trails such as ‘Tumble Dry’ and ‘Static Cling’, which have increased the number of advanced trails in the resort.
Sun Peaks offers everything from wide-open groomed runs to steep mogul trails. Beginners will find many aspects to enjoy on their ski holiday to Sun Peaks and long green trails to give them confidence and there are also green runs down from the summits of all of the three mountains – which mean all levels of skiers can all ride the lifts together and meet up at the base area.
Intermediate skiers have a great selection of runs across the three mountains, including the fantastic rolling blue trail Out of the Woods and some short testing black runs such as Sting. Some picturesque routes through the trees of Last Chance and The Other Way make Sun Peaks a great Mountain for this level of skier.
Snowboarders are well accommodated on Sun Peaks also with the Terrain Park on Sundance. More advanced skiers and snowboarders, will go up the Sunburst and Crystal chairs, where they can access tougher black trails, including the moguls of Headwall and Spillway.
All the three mountain areas have something for every level, which makes a ski holiday to Sun Peaks a great option for groups of all different ages and abilities.
